The Institute for Arts and Media preserves regional visual history and contains a vast collection of photographic images. The Institute promotes research, serves as a center for the exchange of ideas about visual history, and contributes to the region’s educational efforts through exhibitions, programs, and digital archives. The archives contain collections from photographers from the Los Angeles area focusing on; regional history between the 1940s to the present, African American history, Civil Rights Movement, rise of jazz, United Farmworkers, Latin America, including leaders of past and present, and events comprise the archives through photojournalism, commercial and fine art photography.
