The Historic New Orleans Collection, founded in 1966, is a museum, research center, and publisher located in the heart of the French Quarter. Founders L. Kemper and Leila Williams were avid preservationists and collectors of manuscript materials relating to the Battle of New Orleans and French colonial society. Over time, THNOC’s collecting mission has expanded to include photography, film, jazz, literature, decorative arts, Mardi Gras memorabilia, and oral history narratives. Researchers may access our holdings—which include some 35,000 library items, more than two miles of documents and manuscripts, and approximately 350,000 artworks and artifacts—at the Williams Research Center, one of the largest archives in the South.
Our HistoryPin images are drawn from the Charles L. Franck Studio Collection, comprising 16,000 photographs and negatives that chronicle the growth of Louisiana and New Orleans during the 20th century.
