The Pancake Day Race Collection

What do you get if you cross pancakes, frying pans and some swift housewives? Answer: The Pancake Race.

The custom began in Olney, Buckinghamshire, now home to an annual Pancake Race. Supposedly the tradition began when a housewife was late for church so ran to the service from the kitchen, complete with frying pan and the pancakes she was making for Shrove Tuesday. Races are now held all around the world, from Cardiff to Kansas and there is even one between the Lords and the Commons in the Houses of Parliament.
