Cromer High School were featured in the local press after taking Historypin out into their community.
Cromer High School students hosted a community day at Merchants Place, Cromer in association with Historypin. Local residents were invited to dig out their old photos of Cromer, Norfolk and the world and bring them along to the day where History students from Cromer High School assisted visitors in uploading and pinning their old photos onto Historypin.com, and capturing the stories behind the photos.
Historypin allows users to layer their old images onto Google Maps Street View which let residents create a series of windows into the past. The day enabled different generations to come together to share their stories, history and digital know-how.
Student Kieran Gregory said, “There has been a real mixture of people who have come in and they have brought a good range of pictures with them. I have liked hearing the stories behind the pictures and finding out about the history of Cromer.”
John Dobson, a volunteer with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution Henry Blogg Museum, brought along pictures and gave a talk on the Cromer rescue mission involving SS Georgia in 1927. He said: “This event has been absolutely wonderful. I was really impressed with how quickly things can be archived, at the click of a button.”
As well as being uploaded onto Historypin.com, the photos will also be used by Cromer High School students for their history studies.
Have a look at the photos students have already uploaded onto Historypin.com. If you have any, add some of your own.
