Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was an Indian political and ideological leader. Often referred to as ‘Mahatma’ (Great Soul) he advocated resistance to oppression through non-violent means and has his philosophy has inspired individuals and civil rights movements around the world. His leadership was instrumental in mobilising India’s people to secure independence from British rule in 1948.
