The Festival Of Britain

London and Britain was in a state of ruin after the effects of World War II.

The idea of the Festival of Britain was to help redevelop London through architecture, design, the arts, science and engineering. By showcasing this to help encourage people in the rebuild of Britain.

The Festival opened on May 3rd 1951 till September 1951, The South Bank London being the main area where the festival was held. Other places included Oxford, Bournemouth and Bath.

The festival of Britain was described as 'a tonic for the nation' by Herbert Morrison the labour deputy leader.
